Konus
To Unveil New Optics at SHOT Show 2009
Miami,
Florida, December 12, 2008 - As preparations for the 31st
Annual SHOT Show get underway, Konus Optical & Sports
Systems announces a wide range of new hunting and shooting
optics to be unveiled at the show, January 15-18, 2009, at
the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando, Florida.
"This
year Konus brings some very interesting things to the table
at SHOT Show," said Mark Shore, Vice President of Sales
& Marketing, Konus USA. "With the addition of handgun
scopes to the KonusPro family, a one-power scope and three
new additions to our M-30 line, we are looking forward to
an exciting 2009."
For the
first time ever, Konus will launch a series of handgun scopes
as part of their highly successful KonusPro line of riflescopes.
The new KonusPro 2x28 and 2-8x28 feature long eye relief,
multi-coated optics, a one-piece tube and a 30/30-style reticle.
Both scopes are parallax correct at 50 yards and feature the
unique Konus glass engraved reticle system in which the reticle
is laser-etched onto precision glass rather than using a thin
wire.
And for
those who hunt and/or live in areas that do not allow magnification,
Konus introduces the KonusPro 1X32. This scope is completely
legal in any "no-magnification" zoned areas. No
longer will the hunter have to settle for the cumbersome uncertainty
of aligning the three aim points of an iron sight. With this
unique scope, hunters will be able to fulfill their quest
for the accuracy that a riflescope and a single plane reticle
have to offer. The 1x32 features long eye relief, the Konus
engraved reticle system, and multi-coated optics.
On the
heels of a successful launch of the KonusPro M-30 Series,
Konus will add three more scopes to this popular line. The
new 3-12x56 is a versatile scope that can be used for varmint
hunting, big game or bench rest shooting. The new 1-4x24 is
an ideal shotgun or blackpowder scope with long eye relief.
And for dangerous game hunters or those who hunt in heavily
wooded areas, Konus will launch the 1.5-6x44, which provides
optimum light transmission and is parallax correct at 100
yards. All KonusPro M30 scopes are designed for power and
precision and are ideal for hunting, military use, law enforcement
and bench rest/target shooting. Every scope in the line features
a true 30mm tube throughout, lockable tactical turrets, an
illuminated BLUE engraved reticle (mil dot or center dot),
an anti-canting level system, fully multi-coated high-definition
optics and long eye relief.
The
Konus Challenge
Konus
challenges any hunter to match up their current scope to a
KonusPro riflescope and see if dollar for dollar, it doesn't
blow it away. A great value for your money, Konus riflescopes
provide the advantage of an engraved reticle system and a
Limited Lifetime Replacement Warranty. That means that Konus
will replace, not repair, a defective product for your lifetime.
Ask your local retailer if they carry Konus products. If they
don't, TELL THEM WHY THEY SHOULD!
About
Konus
Konus
was founded in 1979 in Verona, Italy with a mission to provide
customers with functional, high-quality, European designed

to capture their perfect prize. Konus' line of hunting equipment
has been designed with the true outdoorsman in mind, taking
into account real life hunting situations and including superior
features to make sure every hunter has the best opportunity
to make the shot that counts. All KonusPro riflescopes, binoculars,
electronic dots, and spotting scopes are warranted against
original defects in material and/or workmanship under the
Limited Lifetime Replacement Warranty. Defective products
will be completely replaced. For more information on any Konus

Hunter's
Specialties New Logo
Hunter's
Specialties now has a new logo to coincide with their packaging
strategy, which features a bright new uncluttered design with
a contemporary bold look that is more visually appealing and
identifiable on store shelves.
The
new logo replaces the one that has been in place since the
company was founded in 1977. "It was tough making the
decision to change the logo after 32 years." Said Carman
Forbes, Co-CEO of the company. "As we looked at updating
our packaging and coming up with a clean new modern design,
it was clear that a new logo was in order".
Dave and Carman Forbes started Hunter's Specialties in 1977
with a single product - a roll of No-Mar camo tape. They soon
added the highly popular Camo Compact to their line. Now Hunter's
Specialties is known for producing a full line of over 800
accessories for hard core hunters. H.S. Strut, PrimeTime scents,
Scent-A-Way, Vita-Rack, Wayne Carlton's Calls, Johnny Stewart
Wildlife Calls and their newest addition, Barnie Calef Calls
are all popular consumer brands under the Hunter's Specialties
banner.
"We're always looking for ways to improve not only our
products, but the visual impact our packaging has on store
shelves", said Dave Forbes, Co-CEO of the company. "With
the new logo and rich gold packaging, consumers will be able
to readily identify our products when they shop retail outlets".
Hunter's Specialties new logo will begin to appear in the
marketplace in 2009.

Sportsmen
Fight another Lawsuit by Antis' Seeking to Ban Hunting and
Trapping
The U.S.
Sportsmen's Alliance Foundation has filed to represent sportsmen
in yet another lawsuit brought by animal activists seeking
to eliminate hunting, fishing and trapping wherever endangered
or threatened species exist. The Maine based case mirrors
another case from the state that was settled last October,
with the plaintiff groups sharing key personnel with the plaintiff
from that case. In both, the plaintiffs attempted to stop
trapping altogether in Maine due to the incidental taking
of the federally protected Canada lynx.
On October
10, the U.S. Sportsmen's Alliance Foundation (USSAF) asked
a U.S. District Judge for permission to join a federal lawsuit
brought by two anti hunting groups, the Wildlife Alliance
of Maine and the Animal Welfare Institute against the Maine
Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife. This lawsuit
comes on the heels of a similar case brought previously by
a third anti hunting group, the Animal Protection Institute
(API), which also sought to stop trapping.
USSAF's
Legal Defense Fund (U.S. SLDF), Fur Takers of America (FTA),
the National Trappers' Association (NTA), the Maine Trappers'
Association (MTA), Sportsman's Alliance of Maine, and several
individual sportsmen joined together to fight the API suit.
As a result of those efforts and that of the State, the case
was settled under an agreement that restricts trap sizes in
areas where Canada lynx exist rather than close down trapping
altogether.
"Unfortunately, these groups are joined at the hip with
API. They share key personnel and use the same expert witnesses,"
said Rob Sexton, USSAF vice president for government affairs.
"You can't just keep re-filing the same case whenever
you're unhappy with an outcome, especially after you agreed
with the decision at the time. Yet that's what they're doing.
The new case is nothing more than a second bite at the apple
for them."
Both the API case and the new one deal with serious legal
issues regarding the possible use of the Endangered Species
Act (ESA) to ban all hunting, trapping, and fishing whenever
there is a possibility of incidentally taking an animal that
falls under federal protection.
As Mr. Sexton indicates, "Once more the antis are striking
at trapping, but like the API case, if they win here, the
precedent will be set to attack all forms of hunting and fishing.
The USSAF
has filed to join the case, along with the MTA, FTA, NTA,
and individual sportsmen Dana Johnson, Sr., Donald Dudley,
and Carl Guay.
The U.S. Sportsmen's Legal Defense Fund is the nation's only
litigation force that exclusively represents sportsmen's interests
in the courts. It defends wildlife management and sportsmen's
rights in local, state and federal courts. The U.S. SLDF represents
the interests of sportsmen and assists government lawyers
who have little or no background in wildlife law.
The U.S.
Sportsmen's Alliance Foundation is a national association
of sportsmen and sportsmen's organizations that protects and
advances America's heritage of hunting, fishing and trapping.

Barack
Obama's view of the 2nd amendment
We
would like to help the many sportsmen and women who visit
our site to obtain all the information necessary to make an
informed choice on the 2008 Presidential race and our all-important
2nd Amendment rights. You may have heard conflicting information
Barack Obama's view of the 2nd amendment. We have found a
comprehensive and very informative Web site that will provide
the facts; click here www.gunbanobama.com
Have
you ever wondered exactly what each political party's position
is on the 2nd amendment?
The Democratic
National Committee has released its official party platform
including its position on gun control. Key elements include:
closing the gun show loophole, improving our background check
system, and reinstating the assault weapons ban. READ
IT HERE (Firearms - Page 48).
The Republican National Committee has also released
its official party platform including its position on gun
control. Key elements include; condemnation of frivolous lawsuits
against firearms manufacturers, opposition of federal licensing
of law-abiding gun owners and national gun registration as
violations of the Second Amendment. A recognition that gun
control only affects and penalizes law-abiding citizens, and
that such proposals are ineffective at reducing violent crime.

Trijicon, Inc Partners With The NRA Whittington
Center's Adventure Camp
Summer
camp generally conjures images of children splashing in the
water or engaged in arts and crafts. But at the NRA Whittington
Center's Adventure Camp, the campers are immersed in a comprehensive
educational program that teaches firearm safety, and are engaged
in honing their skills on the rifle, shotgun and pistol ranges.
Trijicon,
Inc. a world leader in Brilliant Aiming Solutions, continues
its long-standing commitment to ensuring the future legacy
of hunting and shooting sports by donating to this unique
program. The non-profit camp features two 13-day summer sessions
of approximately 40 campers each, for kids ages 13 to 17 from
all walks of life. Trijicon supplies the program, held at
a 33,000-acre complex located near Raton, New Mexico, with
top of the line products needed by the campers to participate
safely and effectively in hunting and shooting sports. Trijicon
has donated many of its renowned shooting optics, including
its AccuPoint riflescopes, ACOGs and Bright & Tough night
sights for pistols, to help the talented volunteer instructors
at the center teach youth the solid and safe fundamentals
of firearm use. The camp also includes specialized training
in wilderness map reading, hunting camp preparation, animal
tracking, caring of downed game and understanding wildlife
management techniques - all in lessons designed to encourage
and build leadership and team spirit. "It's through the
generous donations of industry leaders like Trijicon that
the Adventure Camp is able to provide the level and quality
of education that it does," said Bill Perkins, Camp Director.
"And the campers truly reap the benefits - these kids
take away so much from their experience here - it becomes
a part of who they are."
Many campers
return year after year, often as junior counselors. Some are
getting an early start on the inside track of their potential
career of choice - from law enforcement to special ops, with
the excellent training the program and products like Trijicon's
provide. Hans Loewen, 14, is from Hampstead, NC. Hans is returning
for his second year as a camper and his older sister, Zatha,
is returning as a counselor. "I'm hoping to eventually
make it into the Navy SEALS, which I know is a long shot,"
Hans says. "Otherwise, I'll focus on surface warfare.
This camp has been great. I've had fun and learned a lot and
got the chance to shoot with Trijicon's illuminated scopes
- the reticles were really bright, you could really get on
the target! It's cool to have the chance to have so much range
time with this kind of variety of equipment."
Trijicon
recognizes that the youth of today are the shooters and hunters,
not to mention members of law enforcement and military, of
tomorrow. "This is an amazing program and right on target
with what Trijicon stands for," says Trijicon's Marketing
Coordinator Susan Belanger. "We're thrilled to have the
chance to participate in providing a safe and incredibly effective,
educational experience for these remarkable young people."

Excise
Tax Reform Bill
Currently,
firearms and ammunition manufacturers must pay the firearms
and ammunition excise tax (FAET) bi-weekly. This payment schedule
forces many manufacturers to borrow money to ensure on-time
payment, and industry members spend thousands of man-hours
administering the necessary paperwork to successfully complete
the bi-weekly payments that are due long before manufacturers
are paid by their customers.
Now, Sens.
Max Baucus (D-Mont.) and Mike Crapo (R-Idaho), have introduced
legislation called; "The Firearms Fairness and Affordability
Act," seeking to rectify a longstanding inequity in the
collection of the major source of wildlife conservation funding.
This bill; S. 3331, would allow the firearms and ammunition
industry to pay the FAET on a quarterly basis, the same payment
schedule as every other industry that supports conservation.
This legislation
will NOT lower the amount of conservation dollars collected
by the tax. A similar bill, H.R. 6310, was introduced in the
U.S. House of Representatives recently.
Winchester
Sales Up
Winchester
second quarter 2008 sales were $116.1 million, compared with
$99.8 million in the second quarter of 2007. The combination
of higher selling prices and higher sales volumes were responsible
for the increase.
Winchester segment income for the second quarter was $9.5
million, compared to $5.6 million in the second quarter of
2007. The favorable impact of higher volumes and increased
selling prices was partially offset by the continued increase
in the cost of raw materials, including copper, lead, zinc,
steel, and resins.

Sportsmen
Against HSUS Fund Issues Fact Sheet
A new
fact sheet that details the dangers of the nation's largest
and most active anti-hunting group is available from the U.S.
Sportsmen's Alliance.
The educational fact sheet is part of the organization's Sportsmen
Against HSUS Campaign, designed to educate sportsmen and sportswomen,
elected officials, media decision makers and the public at
large about the nation's largest animal rights group.
"Thousands of people each year donate millions of dollars
to the Humane Society of the United States (HSUS) without
truly knowing where their money is going," said U.S.
Sportsmen's Alliance Senior Vice President Rick Story. "Our
idea is to give sportsmen the information they need to understand
the dangers of the HSUS and its anti-hunting agenda and to
pass the information on to friends and family."
New members of the U.S. Sportsmen's Alliance will receive
a copy of the HSUS FACT SHEET. Memberships start at $25. Visit
www.ussportsmen.org.
Also, sportsmen who contribute one dollar to the fund will
receive a fact sheet about HSUS that details the organization's
anti-hunting programs, its annual funding and other important
facts.
Money collected will be used exclusively to continue the battle
against the Humane Society of the United States (HSUS) and
its animal rights campaign.
The Sportsmen
Against HSUS drive will also fund campaigns that combat the
public policy threats initiated and supported by the HSUS.
The HSUS lobbying machine claims to have played a role in
getting 86 different state laws passed in 2007 alone.
Sportsmen who wish to receive the FACT sheet or to otherwise
contribute to the Sportsmen Against HSUS Fund may send their
contribution to Sharon Hayden, Communications Assistant, U.S.
Sportsmen's Aliance, 801 Kingsmill Parkway, Columbus, OH,
43229.
The U.S. Sportsmen's Alliance is a national association of
sportsmen and sportsmen's organizations that protects the
rights of hunters, anglers and trappers in the courts, legislatures,
at the ballot, in Congress and through public education programs.

REMINGTON
TO CLOSE H&R 1871 PLANT
Remington
Arms Company, Inc. announced a strategic manufacturing consolidation
move that will result in the closure of its Gardner, Massachusetts
plant . This integration will be seamless and will not affect
customers or product offerings.
"While
it was a difficult decision to close Gardner, we believe that
this consolidation will enhance our ability to more efficiently
provide quality products at competitive prices in an increasingly
demanding global marketplace." said Tommy Millner, Remington's
Chief Executive Officer. "We are always looking for ways
to strengthen and optimize our business in order to stay competitive,
while also creating additional opportunities for our employees
and better products for customers. Our number one goal is
to provide our customers and end-users with the best, most
innovative products at a competitive price. Consolidation
of manufacturing capabilities and migration to common operating
systems are expected to create efficiencies that will achieve
this goal."
Throughout
the remainder of 2008, the integration of Gardner's operations
is expected to result in centralized sales and marketing,
streamlined operations, standardized information technology
infrastructure, and common financial functionality while vigorously
maintaining and promoting individual brand identity and products.
Unfortunately,
an estimated 200 Gardner employees will be impacted by the
closure, which is expected to be completed by the end of 2008.
A number of employees will transition from Gardner to other
capacities within the Company. For those not transferred,
the Company will be offering severance, outplacement, and
referral services in order to assist in this difficult transition.
